Doesn’t English (#029) – Mizuki Amapola

_______________________________________________________________

Córdoba Argentina has a place called Isla De Los Patos, which translates to Island of the Ducks! Now if that’s not reason enough to go there (and it is btw), then there’s also a lot of sick bands, including Mizuki Amapola. Their EP is called Pájaros Azules, which means Blue Birds (hmm). In these songs you will find a wicked scream and a gentle whisper. Normally that would be enough to win me over but it doesn’t stop there. It’s also extra rad as well as dope. If somebody offered me a bedroom punk record, this is exactly what I’d be hoping to hear. Super catchy, melodic and indie-twinged. It makes me want to show off my dance move. Yes, it’s just the one move, but it’s really something guys. In a word I would call it both stunning and inspirational and elevating and confusing. Which is odd because most things I do are not confusing at all.

From the DOESN’t SERIOUS COMEDY DEPARTMENT – Final Warning’s Adam Sandler Tribute Album

_________________________________________________________________

What happens when you mix misty bedroom indie with sound clips from Adam Sandler movies? You get a project called Final Warning, which seems like a name better suited for a mid 80’s NYHC band. In fact I would not be the least bit surprised if you told me it was. Maybe not from New York, but there absolutely has to have been a hardcore band somewhere at some point called Final Warning. If there wasn’t then I don’t even know who I am anymore. I don’t even know what planet I’m on. What’s the point of anything!? This just in: There most definitely was a hardcore band called Final Warning in the 80’s out of Portland OR. I knew it. In your face. Anyway, so yeah, this whole album is a tribute to Adam Sandler (aka the Sandman). There’s even a sick cover of the emo classic Somebody Kill Me Please from The Wedding Singer. I really appreciate this actually. Yeah in recent years the comedy of the Sand has been a bit bland, but when you were a prepubescent boy in 1996, there was nothing on earth more suited to your needs than The Goat and Do It For Your Mama. That man was a child and that child was a genius.

COMPOST (#009) – Deep Sea Records

.

To be fair to you readers I must disclose, this does have a cover of the 90’s go-to rom-com classic There She Goes by The La’s. Hey, where are you going? Hey! Ok well those of you still reading, you’re in for a treat, because there’s also a Sonic The Hedgehog cover on here. Don’t get all riled up though. You need to prepare yourself to chill, because this little comp from Deep Sea Records is not here to beat you up. It just wants to snuggle. Hey where are you going!? Ok, last remaining reader, you’re obviously on board. Get your favorite blankie and let’s do this! Seriously though, I think anyone can find something they like on here. Whether you’re into bedroom pop, indie, or emo.. Ok I guess not anyone can find something. It’s really only people who are into those three things. If you have a few bucks you should buy this thing too because all proceeds go to the International Rescue Committee to help refugees and that’s a good cause.
